  Wesley A. Caldwell, Chairman of the Board of Mississippi Steel Corporation, writes to MSU President Dean W. Colvard, to express his opposition to MSU playing Loyola Chicago, a team with Black players, in the NCAA tournament. Caldwell says that Mississippi Steel Corp. would be discontinuing their contributions to the MSU foundation. There is a handwritten note at the bottom of the telegram from Class of 1951 graduate H.K. Davis, a Mississippi Steel Corp. stockholder, who explains that he is in support of Caldwell's actions.

  In these diary excerpts, MSU President Dean W. Colvard documents events happening during the early 1960s at the university and in the state, including the integration of the University of Mississippi. Colvard details the events surrounding he and Coach Babe McCarthy's decision to send the MSU basketball team to play Loyola Chicago in Michigan in March 1963, despite Governor Ross Barnett's order that the team not be allowed to go. Colvard also details the integration of MSU in July 1965, when Richard Holmes enrolled as the first Black student in the university's history.

  This copy of the Rebel Underground, written and distributed by a segregationist organization called the Sons of Mississippi, was sent to President Colvard in March 1963. All issues of the Rebel Underground, including this one, focus on segregation and states' rights. This particular issue attacks Colvard and Coach Babe McCarthy for their decision to allow MSU to play an integrated team.

The program contains black and white photographs of the four teams, and extra photographs of the coaches and a prominent player, in the Tournament, the Bowling Green Falcons, (Harold Anderson (head coach) and Nate Thurmond (Center)); Illinois Fighting Illini (Harry Combes (head coach) and Dave Downey (Forward)), Loyola Ramblers (George Ireland (head coach) and Jerry Harkness (Captain and Forward)), and Mississippi State Bulldogs (Babe McCarthy (head coach) and Leland Mitchell (Forward)). All of the teams are integrated, except for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. This program is the exact same as the other program, except for the cover art and Coca-Cola advertisement in the center.
